Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP)
The Transporation Alternatives Program (TAP) is the largest dedicated source of funding for trail and active transportation projects. All TAP projects require project sponsors to pay 100% of project costs up front and are then reimbursed up to 80% of approved project costs after conducting project activity. All TAP projects require sponsors to pay a minimum of 20% of the approved project costs. Federal TAP funds are capped at the time of the project.

The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Fund was created in 1989 to preserve important natural communities, protect water quality and fisheries, and expand opportunities for outdoor recreation and has several subprograms.

Shooting Range Grant Program
The Shooting Range grant program is a cost-sharing grant for county or local government units, clubs, organizations, businesses, corporations and educational institutions for outdoor shooting range construction projects and some indoor range items

Great Lakes Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Technical Assistance Center (TCTAC)
These grants are made possible by funding from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) through its Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program. Starting in 2024, the Foundation will distribute $52 million over three years. Applications are accepting on a rolling basis until November 2026.
